I don't always wear sunscreen and I have started to notice sun damage...HELP! ~@craftluxe on Twitter

Prevent & Correct Sun Damage

Sure, we all know sunscreen is the best way to prevent sun damage, but it can be easy to forget to apply, and reapply! After all that fun in the sun without adequate protection, you could be facing all sorts of unwanted dark marks, sun spots and crinkles. Sun damage, also known as photoaging, is a result of exposure to UV radiation from sunlight or artificial UV light. The two main symptoms of sun damage are hyperpigmentation (dark spots on the skin), and fine lines or wrinkles.

So what can you do about it? There are a multitude of potions that help repair sun damaged skin and it's essential to stash a few of these in your beauty arsenal. Exuviance Age Reverse uses state-of-the-art, multi-tasking formulations and is clinically proven to visibly reduce the signs of sun damage. The Exuviance Age Reverse four piece collection includes BioActiv Wash, Day Repair SPF 30, Night Lift, and Eye Contour. These products incorporate complementary technologies including Retinol and NeoGlucosamine™ to lightly exfoliate the surface layers of skin to increase cell renewal, diminishing the appearance of age spots and smoothing the skin's surface. Peptides, Polyhydroxy Acids and NeoGlucosamine™ help rebuild collagen and its surrounding support structure to help restore firmness and elasticity to reduce the look of lines and wrinkles. Chardonnay grape seed extract, Maltobionic Acid, Gluconolactone, Vitamin E and berry extracts fight damage, neutralize free radicals and prevent the breakdown of collagen and elastin.

In addition to the Age Reverse regimen, we recommend also adding a targeted treatment to your beauty bag to help diminish dark spots. We suggest Exuviance Intense Lightening Complex, a proven skin lightener that contains hydroquinone to reduce uneven pigmentation. Not a fan of HQ products? Exuviance OptiLight Tone Corrector is the ideal brightener for those looking for an alternative to hydroquinone.

I have a milia on my forehead, chin and cheeks. My dermatologist suggested glycolic acid to help with exfoliation. Can you suggest a regimen? ~Barbara via email

Exfoliate for Improved Texture

Milia are tiny white bumps that can occur on the face when skin is not exfoliating properly. Dead skin cells become trapped under the epidermis, forming these unsightly "plugs" or blemishes.

We all know that a daily skin care regimen, geared toward your skin type, will keep your skin healthy and clear. When treating milia, exfoliation is key. Adding a Glycolic Acid cleanser and moisturizer to your daily regimen will make a difference. Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that stimulates cell turnover, exfoliating the dead cells that can cause milia and allowing new, healthy cells to grow.

To prevent and treat milia, we recommend washing your face once or twice daily with an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) cleanser, such as NeoStrata Foaming Glycolic Wash. This will help bring the milia to the surface of the skin. Follow that with a daytime moisturizer that contains AHAs, such as NeoStrata Ultra Daytime Smoothing Cream SPF 20. In the evening, apply NeoStrata Ultra Smoothing Cream after cleansing. These moisturizers contain 10% Alpha Hydroxy Acid, which is an ideal level for first-time users. AHAs can cause sensitivity in certain skin types, so as with any new product, these should be introduced into your regimen gradually to allow your skin to acclimate. If the milia persists, once your skin has acclimated to 10% AHA products, NeoStrata Face Cream Plus or NeoStrata Lotion Plus can be used in place of NeoStrata Ultra Smoothing Cream in the evening. These products contain a higher concentration of Alpha Hydroxy Acids and should only be used by experienced AHA users. If in doubt, consult your physician.

20% Alpha Hydroxy Acid gently exfoliates, unclogs congested pores, and stimulates cell renewal.

Do I need to wear an SPF every day? What about in the winter? ~Amanda R., Philadelphia, PA

Daytime Complexion Protection

By now we all realize how important it is to apply sunscreen at the beach, but did you know you should protect your skin against sun damage in the winter? Sun exposure doesn't just happen in the summer by the pool, or only on sunny days, it happens every day. Your skin can still experience the effects from UVA and UVB rays in the winter, even if you are not directly in the sun. The sun's ultraviolet rays pass right through the clouds and can even penetrate glass, making you susceptible to damage during daily activities like riding in your car. The reflection of the sun's rays off snow and other bright surfaces can also contribute to skin damage so we all should take precautions to protect our skin every single day.

Applying a daily sunscreen is extremely important to help prevent skin aging as well as skin cancer. Since sun exposure is cumulative, all those quick trips to the store, commutes to work, even those precious hours outside with your kids can add up to significant, if unseen sun damage. Trust us, you might not see the damage yet, but it's there! Sunscreen works by absorbing or reflecting some of the sun's damaging ultraviolet radiation to protect against sunburn, while combating cumulative sun damage. It's important to use a sunscreen fortified with antioxidants to help protect against UV-induced free radicals, which can contribute to visible signs of aging.

There are many telltale signs of sun damage; fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, even skin cancer. The simple addition of applying a daily sunscreen with antioxidants to your existing beauty routine can make a world of difference for your skin. We recommend Exuviance Age Reverse Day Repair SPF 30 or NeoStrata Daytime Protection Cream SPF 23 to help protect your skin and help keep it looking young and healthy. Both of these products offer exceptional protection from the sun and help to correct any existing sun damage you may have. When it comes to great skin care, products that offer both prevention and correction will prove the most beneficial in the long run!
