Refining Large Pores

Refining Large Pores

With age and sun exposure, the skin loses its elasticity and pore size can increase. Genetics play a role too. If you aren't one of the lucky few born with microscopic pores, there are products that can help make your pores appear smaller, and keep them from getting larger.

You may notice that pores contain hair follicles and sweat glands that can easily become clogged and enlarged. Over time, your pores may appear larger due to environmental and sun damage, a buildup of bacteria, oil and dead skin cells and improper skin care including lack of exfoliation.

Maintaining a good skin care regimen is vital to keeping your pores clean and healthy looking. Opt for skin care products with ingredients known to increase cell turnover and enhance the exfoliation process. Keeping your pores clean and clear, combined with the use of certain topical treatments, can also make them appear smaller. Products with Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Polyhydroxy Acids (PHAs) are proven to stimulate cell turnover which not only helps prevent pores from clogging and stretching, they also make pores appear more refined.

To refine and unclog your pores, we recommend that you cleanse your face twice daily with a pore-refining cleanser such as Exuviance Clarifying Cleanser to help reduce problematic bacteria. For more oily skin types we suggest following with an oil and pore reducing treatment such as Daily Acne Peel, formulated with Salicylic Acid. Finish your routine with an oil-controlling moisturizer, such as Sheer Refining Fluid SPF 35 to add necessary moisture while keeping excess oil production under control. For further pore refinement swap out your daily peel once a week for Performance Peel AP25. This weekly treatment will exfoliate dead, dull surface layers to help refine pore size. Shop Oily/Acne.
